The government has produced several Planning Policy Statements and Planning Policy Guidance notes, which local Council's are to follow when considering a planning application. I've read most of them and have cut and pasted the ones I believe are relevant for our objections in the document below. It's a word document so you should have no problems opening it. PPS 6 is particularly important. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to highlight anything in that section because I had to use pictures rather than normal text. Hopefully, you will find it useful.
