It is about ASDA "calming" Silverhill residents. Brett McLean, Chairman of the hastings branch of the FSB, speaks out in defence of ASDA! He is saying that people go to ASDA to do their weekly shopping, whereas they go to the Silverhill shops to get the odd newspaper, a pint of milk or to have their key cut - services that ASDA do not supply. (?)
I will make a complaint to the Federation of Small Businesses, who have, after all, just launched a campaign to Keep Trade Local, in a bid to save the High Street. How can he, in his capacity as Chairman of Hastings FSB, speak out in defence of a multinational company?
Please write to the Observer, contact Arrow FM, contact your councillors and make your views known. ASDA are still saying that 70% of the local residents are in favour of the new store. I simply cannot believe that - in my experience from speaking to people it is about 90% against.
